Willa is an excellent human being in addition to being an excellent OT. She is professional, kind, and thoughtful. She really has a way with both of my children, and I feel fortunate that we found her. -MG

THIS HAS BENEFITED MY WHOLE FAMILY

Navigating the pandemic with a child with a disability

I was happy to receive a call from WindWalkers saying they had teamed up with Willa, Occupational Therapist, to offer TeleHealth sessions to families during this unprecedented time of school at home. WindWalkers was impressed with Willa's calm nature and creative ideas. I immediately said Yes!
The video sessions have occurred once a week with Willa and me. I didn't really know what to expect but I knew I was a bit of a mess and needed support. I have realized that Willa is the only person truly supporting me during this time, and I have really needed that!
We started by determining what I needed help with first. We came to the conclusion that I needed to be able to take care of myself in order to be able to care for our two daughters and manage the household. Willa taught me some breathing exercises for self-compassion and the well-being of our youngest daughter. We explored Mindfulness. We moved on to coming up with ideas for more structure in
our days and a routine. I wanted to know how to be able to stay well long-term. I wanted to build in time
for myself, time with each girl, time for my husband, school, work, exercise, fun...time for the girls together. We now have a routine that helps! And we are looking toward summer and how that might change. Willa has benefited my entire family.
We have certainly talked about my daughter, who has Down's Syndrome, a lot too. Willa has helped us come up with ideas on getting her
to her video classes and engaging her. Now we are talking about how the summer will go and the use of
audio books to build confidence in reading, and giving my daughter choices as she likes to be the boss. We wonder about the possibility of my daughter seeing friends safely outside this summer too. As I look back on how I was feeling when I started talking to Willa and how I am feeling now, there is a tremendous difference! I feel so much better now! I have navigated this Covid19 time successfully and I am not dreading the summer or the fall, especially not knowing what school will look like in the future.
Willa has been my partner to get me to where I am now. And I am so grateful for Willa and WindWalkers.

AUTISM AND IDD

Willa Bonzi worked with my daughter through the National Sports Center for the Disabled (NSCD) for the 2 ski seasons and our family has maintained close communication with Willa throughout the years. Our daughter is now 8 years old and has Autism with severe developmental delay including cognitive and speech disability and physical handicaps. Through Willa's interactions with our daughter and our family over the last years it is very clear to me and my family that Willa is a person of the finest character, with abundance of love and compassion, intelligence and thoughtfulness. She is hard working and enthusiastic for challenges. She is capable of taking on difficult and challenging tasks. She is trustworthy and honest without question. Willa has made a special bond with our daughter and our family.

Willa is a delightful, engaging, energetic and enthusiastic young lady with a bright smile and happy demeanor that readily puts people at ease and allows her to make fast and lasting relationships with both handicapped and non-handicapped persons and persons from all walks of life. Willa also has a keen intellect, she is a fast learner and able to handle stressful and difficult situations with clam and clear direction. She is mentally and physically strong, resourceful with good problem solving skills and has great creativity. Moreover, she has a great compassion for others and truly cares about the people she works with. She possesses a rare internal drive to make the world a better place and to help people in need. She has worked with and made friends with people in all walks of life. She has a keen ability to understand different cultural backgrounds and has learned values of the people who live in more impoverished areas of the world by living with a family in rural Colombia to become immersed in the culture and language of the area. Willa has an innate ability to connect to people quickly and on a deep level. As an adaptive ski instructor, Willa was able to build relationships with students immediately and was able to understand their situations and their needs and was able to teach them in 3-hour period of time.

I encourage you to not miss out on the chance to work with this truly outstanding and wonderful individual in her pursuit to make the world a better place.

HIGH STANDARDS & CARE FOR WELLBEING

Willa is great at what she does and I like that she held us to high standards and cared for Daisy's wellbeing. When we finished treatment, we were bummed that we wouldn't see Willa anymore. I let her supervisors know how much our family likes her.

INVALUABLE TO US

Navigating neurological decline

Willa Bonzi's visits and guidance have proven invaluable to us, especially given the rapidity of my husband’s neurological decline. Her calm and kind manner endeared her to us immediately, and she has truly helped to make our home a safer environment for my husband. I only wish she could have visited more often! I did very much appreciate the balance and strength training, and home exercise program she provided to keep my husband coordinated and strong.

Among other things, Willa taught us adaptive techniques for daily life activities and recommended shower bars and other medical equipment, all designed to help my husband to perform activities of daily life safely and for as long as possible. I am so grateful that we were able to benefit from her knowledge and training, and I feel much more confident in my ability to take care of my husband as a result.
